The route at a glance

The shortest and busiest of the mainland-to-Ibiza sectors, and the one where the aeroplane matters least and the timing matters most. Barcelona El Prat recorded 12,068 business-aviation movements in 2023 and Ibiza 14,383 - the rare pairing where the island end is the busier of the two. That tells you something real: for four months of the year Ibiza generates more private movements than the Catalan capital does, on one runway, and every one of those aircraft needs somewhere to stand. At forty-six minutes the flying is trivial. The slot and the parking are the whole conversation.

Distance is the great-circle figure between airport coordinates from the OurAirports open dataset. The flight time is an estimate, not a measured block time: it comes from a simple model fitted to the flight times Diamond Executive Aero Services already publishes on this website, and it moves with airway routing, wind, slots and aircraft type. Your quotation carries the real schedule.

Which airports we use

One obvious departure, one unavoidable arrival, and two Catalan alternatives that exist for particular circumstances rather than as everyday choices. The Ibiza row is the one to read with your dates open.

AirportCodesGreat-circle to IbizaSuits you if
Barcelona El PratBCN / LEBL276 kmThe default departure and the right answer in almost every case. About fifteen kilometres south-west of the centre, with business aviation handled at its own corporate terminal away from the scheduled piers. It is a slot-coordinated airport, so in the congress weeks the departure window is something to fix early rather than late.
SabadellQSA / LELLslightly longerA general-aviation field about twenty kilometres north of Barcelona, used by light aircraft and helicopters. It suits particular movements and particular aircraft rather than a general Ibiza hop; we will propose it only when it solves something.
Girona or ReusGRO / LEGE, REU / LERSelsewhere in CataloniaGirona serves the Costa Brava roughly a hundred kilometres north-east of Barcelona and Reus serves Tarragona a similar distance south-west. Either can be the sensible departure if the party is already on the coast rather than in the city; neither is worth a drive out of central Barcelona.
IbizaIBZ / LEIBarrivalOne runway, shared through the summer with very heavy scheduled traffic. Business aviation is handled separately; the runway slot and the ramp parking are not, and from July those two are the binding constraint on this route rather than the supply of aircraft. If the aircraft cannot park it drops you and leaves, which changes the shape of the quotation as much as the shape of the day.

Aircraft for Barcelona to Ibiza

Forty-six minutes asks nothing of any aeroplane, so this is a route where the smallest cabin that fits the party is usually the right one. The real questions are how many of you there are, how much is going in the hold, and which types can be given a stand at Ibiza on your date.

Embraer Phenom 300

Six to eight passengers with a 2.27 cubic metre hold. On a forty-six minute hop its 3,650 km of range is beside the point and its availability is everything - it is the type most often free at short notice on the Spanish coast in summer, which is how most of these bookings actually get made.

See the Embraer Phenom 300 ›

Cessna Citation CJ2

A compact light cabin for up to six or seven. The sensible aeroplane for a short crossing with a small party, and one of the easier types to place at Ibiza when stands are scarce, which in August is a practical advantage rather than a technical one.

See the Cessna Citation CJ2 ›

Cessna Citation Bravo

A light cabin of the same class, and a type that appears on our own published Ibiza empty-leg examples. Worth asking about specifically when your dates can move by a day, because this is exactly the sort of sector repositioning flights cover.

All three types are on our own fleet pages. Our own published empty-leg examples for the island include a Citation Bravo on Larnaca to Ibiza and a Legacy 650 on Milan to Ibiza.

What it costs

From €2 200 one way. Indicative starting price for this route, rounded down. The date, the aircraft actually available and airport fees move it — tell us your dates and we confirm within 30 minutes.

No published price for the Barcelona to Ibiza city pair has reached us from a source we would be willing to reprint, so the figure above is our own floor rather than a quotation, and the table gives hourly references for the cabin class instead.

On a sector this short an hourly rate is close to meaningless on its own. Forty-six minutes of flying is a small fraction of what the aeroplane's day costs: crew, handling at El Prat and at Ibiza, landing and parking fees, minimum charges, and the empty leg somebody pays for when the aircraft cannot stay on the island. In August it will nearly always leave again immediately, so the booking is really two sectors and a repositioning flight. In May or October the same aircraft can often wait, and the arithmetic changes completely. The most useful thing you can tell us is not which aeroplane you want but what happens after you land.

The hourly figures are third-party published references for the cabin class and are a poor guide on their own for a forty-six minute sector, which is why we publish a floor as well. The Citation Bravo line is our own published empty-leg example on a much longer city pair and is not the price of a booked charter on your dates. Only a written quotation from Diamond Executive Aero Services, against your dates, is a price. Call +357 95 119759, 24/7.

When to fly, and when to book early

Ibiza is one of the most seasonal airports in Europe and Barcelona is not, which makes this pairing behave oddly: the departure end is busy in February for reasons that have nothing to do with the island, and the arrival end is busy in August for reasons that have nothing to do with the city.

PeriodWhat happensWhat to do
Late February and early MarchBarcelona's congress weeks. El Prat is under real pressure and departure slots are tight - but almost none of that traffic is going to Ibiza, which is closed for the season. If you are flying this sector in the congress weeks, fix the Barcelona departure window early. The island end will not be the problem.
May and OctoberThe shoulders, and the best-value weeks of the year on this route. The island is open, Ibiza is not full, and aircraft are repositioning into and out of the Mediterranean.A few days ahead is enough, and this is when an empty leg going your way is most likely to exist. Ask about one while you book.
June and SeptemberFull season without peak congestion, and the two months EUROCONTROL identifies as the real annual peaks of European business flying.A week or two for a weekend crossing. Ask us to request the Ibiza slot as soon as the arrival day is fixed.
July and AugustMaximum pressure on the island, with ramp parking rather than aircraft as the constraint. Friday and Sunday movements are the hardest of the week.Three to four weeks for a weekend. Ask what the aircraft does after it drops you - on this sector that answer is most of the price.

Onward from Ibiza

Nobody stops at the airport. Where you are going in the hour after the aircraft lands is worth telling us before you leave Barcelona, because in high summer the arrival is built around it.

The marinas and Formentera

Most parties go from the ramp to a berth, and a good many carry on to Formentera by water. Give us the marina and the hour you are expected on board.

Questions we get about this route

How long is the flight from Barcelona to Ibiza by private jet?
About 46 minutes. The great-circle distance from Barcelona El Prat to Ibiza is 276 km, or 149 nautical miles, and our published-times model gives 0 h 46. That is an estimate rather than a measured block time. On a crossing this short the climb and the descent are most of the flight, so wind moves the figure very little - what moves your actual arrival time is the slot at the Ibiza end, not the weather. Allow roughly fifteen minutes on the ground at each end.
Why does a forty-six minute flight not cost forty-six minutes of flying?
Because the time in the air is a small part of what an aeroplane's day costs. Crew, handling at both airports, landing and parking fees, minimum daily charges and - crucially - the empty leg that somebody pays for when the aircraft cannot stay on the island all sit inside the number. In August an aeroplane that brings you across will almost always depart again immediately, so what looks like one short crossing is really two sectors with a repositioning flight attached. That is why this page publishes a floor price instead of inviting you to multiply an hourly rate by three-quarters of an hour.
What does the single runway at Ibiza mean for us?
It means your arrival is planned around a slot rather than around your preferred hour. Ibiza has one runway shared through the summer with very heavy scheduled traffic; business aviation is handled separately but the runway slot and the ramp parking are not. Ibiza recorded 14,383 business-aviation movements in 2023 - more than Barcelona El Prat - and nearly all of them in four months. From July that is the binding constraint on this sector rather than the supply of aeroplanes.
Will the aircraft wait for us on the island?
In July and August, usually not: there is no ramp space to spare and the aeroplane will turn round with other passengers or reposition out empty. In May, June, September and October waiting is straightforward to arrange and is frequently the cheaper shape of the booking, because it removes two empty legs from the arithmetic. Ask at the enquiry stage rather than afterwards - on a sector this short, what the aircraft does between your legs is most of what you are quoted.
How much does a private jet from Barcelona to Ibiza cost?
From EUR 2 200 one way for the whole aircraft as our own floor, on a light cabin. We have not found a published price for this exact city pair from a source we would reprint. Brokers publish 4,600 to 7,300 EUR per hour for light cabins in Europe with entry-level rates quoted from 2,900 EUR per hour (retrieved 2026), but on a forty-six minute sector an hourly rate on its own is not a useful guide. Send us the dates, the passenger count and what you are doing after you land, and you will have a real figure in writing within 30 minutes.
Can we buy single seats rather than the whole aircraft?
On flights we open for sharing, yes. This is one of the sectors where it comes up most often, because the crossing is short, the demand is concentrated into the same few days, and parties frequently travel with spare seats. It is led by dates rather than by routes, so tell us which day you need and how many of you there are and we will say whether anything is open. More about jet sharing, and current empty legs if your dates can move.
Is it worth flying rather than taking the ferry?
It depends on the day you are trying to save. The fast ferry from Barcelona to Ibiza takes several hours and has to be built around sailing times; the flight takes forty-six minutes and the ground time at each end is short. For a long weekend, the aeroplane usually buys back most of a day at each end. For a leisurely trip with a car, the ferry is a perfectly reasonable answer and we are not going to pretend otherwise. What the flight really buys on this pairing is the Friday evening and the Sunday evening.
Which is the busiest movement of the week?
Sunday evening off the island, with Friday evening onto it a close second. Those two windows are when everybody wants the same slot, and in July and August they are where bookings fail rather than in the middle of the week. If your plans have any flexibility at all, a Thursday out and a Monday back is a materially easier - and often cheaper - pair of movements than the Friday-Sunday shape everybody asks for first.
Can I book a last-minute private jet from Barcelona to Ibiza?
Very often, yes, and this is one of the most common short-notice sectors we fly. Both ends carry a lot of traffic and the crossing is short enough that an aircraft finishing a job on the Spanish coast can pick it up the same day. In the peak August weekends it is much harder, and the obstacle is the slot and the stand at Ibiza rather than the aeroplane. Call the operations desk on +357 95 119759 at any hour and we will tell you straight away whether the timing is achievable rather than promise and check later.
