The result is a route with demand in almost every month of the year, which is unusual among the Spanish domestic pairs and makes availability comfortable for most of the calendar.
Two main fields, one at each end, and a handful of regional alternatives that make sense only when the party is already somewhere other than the two cities. Neither end is the kind of hard-constrained airport that dominates our island routes, so this is a comparatively easy sector to arrange.

At 766 km nothing here is stretched, so the choice is about what the trip is for. A morning meeting in Malaga and a return the same evening is a different aeroplane from a family going south for August with a car's worth of luggage, and the honest question is which of the two you are.

This is the one route on this page where the honest comparison is not another aircraft. There is a direct high-speed train between the two cities and it takes the better part of six hours door to door, which is a real alternative for a single traveller with a flexible day and no alternative at all for a party of six who need to be back the same evening. What the aeroplane buys here is the return leg: an hour and a half each way makes a morning meeting in Malaga and an evening back in Barcelona genuinely comfortable, and that is the shape most of this traffic takes. On price, the variables are the usual ones - where the aircraft starts, whether it waits for you, and the day of the week. Waiting is straightforward at Malaga outside the peak August weeks, which makes the day-return shape better value here than it is on our island sectors.
