Barajas to El Prat in about an hour, on the busiest domestic business-jet pair in Spain. Whole-aircraft charter, empty legs and short-notice departures between the two cities that run Spanish business, arranged around the clock.
REQUEST A QUOTEBarcelona to Madrid has been named Spain's busiest domestic business-jet pair, with flights up 16 percent in the 2024 year to date (WingX Global Market Tracker, reported by BlueSky Business Aviation News, issue 734, 2024). EBAA counted 14,754 business-aviation movements at Madrid Barajas in 2023 and 12,068 at Barcelona El Prat. Both ends are scheduled hubs, so the general-aviation terminal, not the runway, is the pinch point.
Neither end of this route is a dedicated business-aviation field, which is the single most important thing to understand about it. You are a guest at two large scheduled airports, using their executive terminals, and everything about timing, parking and handling follows from that.
| Airport | Codes | Distance | Suits you if |
|---|---|---|---|
| Barcelona El Prat | BCN / LEBL | 483 km | Where you start: close to the city, with a general-aviation terminal. The constraint here is parking rather than the runway. In high summer and in congress weeks, space for an aircraft to sit and wait before it collects you is genuinely scarce. |
| Girona | GRO / LEGE | departure alternative | North of Barcelona and the sensible choice if you are starting from the Costa Brava or the Emporda golf and wine country rather than from the city itself. Also a fallback when El Prat parking is full during a peak week. |
| Madrid Barajas | MAD / LEMD | arrival | The default arrival and the only realistic one for most jets. You use the executive aviation terminal rather than the passenger halls, which keeps the process short, but the airport itself is a busy scheduled hub and your landing sits inside its traffic. |
| Madrid Cuatro Vientos | LECU | arrival alternative | The general-aviation field on the south-western side of Madrid. It is not the default for a jet and will not suit every aircraft. Ask us before you assume it, and we will tell you whether the type we are proposing can use it. |

At 483 km, 261 nautical miles, this is one of the shortest jet sectors in Europe and any of the light jets will do it comfortably. The decision is about seats and luggage, not range. Because the flying time is about an hour, the aircraft's position that morning affects your price more than its performance does.
The most widely available light jet in Spain and the usual proposal for a small board party or a legal team doing both cities in a day. Enough hold for a set of sample cases or a couple of golf bags if you are carrying on to the coast.
See the Phenom 300 ›A smaller and very economical light jet, well suited to a sector where you are barely airborne for an hour. Good value when there are only two or three of you and no unusual luggage.
See the Citation CJ2 ›An older light jet that still flies this leg without difficulty. Worth asking about when the budget matters more than the cabin and your departure time can move a little to suit the aircraft.
See the Citation Bravo ›All three types appear on our own fleet pages. Larger cabins can be arranged on this route for bigger groups.
From €4 700 one way. Indicative starting price for this route, rounded down. The date, the aircraft actually available and airport fees move it — tell us your dates and we confirm within 30 minutes.
We have not found a published price for Barcelona to Madrid from a source we would be prepared to reprint, so we will not put a made-up figure in a table. Instead, here is what genuinely moves the number on this sector, and the hourly rates the market publishes for the class of aircraft you would be flying.
On a one-hour sector, the largest single variable is not the flying at all - it is where the aircraft starts and where it has to go afterwards. If a jet is already sitting at Barajas with a crew ready, the quotation is keen. If one has to be flown in from Palma or Valencia to collect you, that repositioning is in your price. The second variable is parking at the Barcelona end: in summer and during congress weeks, an aircraft that waits for you at El Prat may be paying for a scarce space, and it may be cheaper for it to fly away and come back. The third is the return. A same-day round trip with the aircraft waiting is normally better value than two separate one-way flights, and we will price it both ways so you can see the difference.
As a sanity check on any quotation, including ours: Brokers publish 4,600 to 7,300 EUR an hour for light jets in Europe (undated), others publish rates from 2,900 EUR an hour (19.02.2026), and others publish 3,750 to 4,200 USD an hour (August 2026). Those are hourly rates for the class, not a price for this route, and they do not include the positioning that dominates a sector this short.
This is a corporate route with a congress season bolted on to it. It works hard in spring and autumn, hollows out completely in August when Spanish business stops, and spikes hard in Barcelona whenever a major congress fills the city.
| Period | What happens | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| March to June | The strongest corporate stretch. Board and legal traffic between the two cities is constant, and Barcelona's congress calendar adds bursts on top of it, which is when El Prat parking becomes the constraint rather than the aircraft. | Two to three weeks ahead for a weekday morning. Tell us if your dates fall in a congress week and we will confirm parking as well as the flight. |
| Late February and early March | The Mobile World Congress fills Barcelona and everything that flies in Spain seems to be pointed at El Prat. Handling, parking and hotel cars all tighten in the same week. | Book as early as you can and expect us to propose an aircraft that drops you and departs rather than one that waits on stand. |
| July and August | Spanish corporate travel falls away and August is effectively closed. What traffic there is goes to the Balearics and the southern coast, and light jets follow it. | The easiest month to charter at short notice on this pair. Also the best chance of an empty leg, because aircraft are constantly repositioning towards Palma and Ibiza. |
| September to November | The autumn peak, usually the busiest quarter of the year for Spanish domestic business flying, with the trade-fair calendar in Barcelona running alongside it. | Book early for fair weeks. If El Prat is full, ask us to compare Girona honestly against the ground journey to your address. |
Seasonality reflects the Spanish business travel pattern and the Barcelona congress calendar rather than a published seasonal index for this pair.
Barcelona is usually a stop rather than an ending. The Balearics, the Riviera and the southern Spanish coast are all short sectors on the same aircraft, and they are routes we already run.
A natural continuation of the same trip: the aircraft that brings you here can carry straight on.
