Off the Riviera and into the executive terminal at Barajas, the best-supplied business-aviation airport in Spain. Whole-aircraft charter, single seats and empty legs, arranged 24/7.
REQUEST A QUOTEFlown westbound this is a working sector rather than a holiday one, and the interesting end is Madrid. Barajas recorded 14,754 business-aviation movements in 2023 (EBAA 2023) and is the centre of Spanish business aviation, which counts twice over: it is where the aeroplane you fly on most likely lives, and it is a very large scheduled hub, so your landing sits inside airline traffic rather than beside it. Nice, at the other end, recorded 37,425 movements in the same year - second in Europe after Paris Le Bourget - and keeps business aviation in a terminal of its own, which makes the departure the easy half of the day.
The departure is the simple end: Nice keeps business aviation in its own terminal and it is the fastest field on the coast to get out of. Cannes Mandelieu is a genuinely separate airport 24 km west rather than another gate at Nice, and a trip that starts in Monaco reaches the aeroplane by helicopter. At the Madrid end there is really one answer, with one field worth knowing about behind it.
| Airport | Codes | Distance | Suits you if |
|---|---|---|---|
| Nice Cote d'Azur | NCE / LFMN | 957 km | Where you start, and the right choice for almost everyone. 37,425 business-aviation movements in 2023, second in Europe after Paris Le Bourget (EBAA 2023). Business aviation has a terminal of its own away from the scheduled halls, so a departure here is measured in minutes. |
| Cannes Mandelieu | CEQ / LFMD | departure alternative | A separate airport 24 km west of Nice, not another door at Nice. Sensible when you are in Cannes and the party is small, but it is a smaller field with limits on aircraft size - tell us the group and the luggage before we plan around it. |
| Monaco | no runway | departure by helicopter | Monaco has no runway. If the trip starts there, the first leg is a helicopter to the Nice ramp, flown in minutes rather than driven along the coast in season. Say so at the enquiry and we book both legs together. |
| Madrid Barajas | MAD / LEMD | arrival | The default arrival and the only realistic one for most jets. 14,754 business-aviation movements in 2023 (EBAA 2023) and the widest choice of aircraft in Spain, which is what makes short-notice westbound flights work. You use the executive aviation terminal rather than the passenger halls. |
| Madrid Cuatro Vientos | LECU | arrival alternative | The general-aviation field on the south-western side of Madrid, genuinely closer for some addresses. It is not the default for a jet and will not suit every type, so ask us before you assume it and we will say whether the aircraft we are proposing can land there. |

957 km, 517 nautical miles, an hour and a half in the air: the light and midsize band, and every type below covers it non-stop with reserves to spare. Because the sector is long enough to sit down and work on, the choice is really about the cabin and the hold. The other thing that decides it is what happens to be on the Riviera apron on your morning, and in season that is not the same list as in February.
Our usual proposal westbound. A stand-up midsize cabin makes the ninety-odd minutes worth something when the flight is the office, and the hold takes the cases a week on the coast produces. It is also a common type on the Cote d'Azur, so it is often already where you are.
See the Citation XLS+ ›The economical answer for four or five travelling light, and the most widely available light jet at the Madrid end - which matters on the dates when the aircraft has to come across to fetch you rather than being on the coast already.
See the Phenom 300 ›Worth naming for a party of seven or eight, or when the budget matters more than the age of the aeroplane. It covers the sector easily, and in high season it is often what is genuinely free on the Riviera on the date you want.
See the Hawker 800XP ›All three types appear on our own fleet pages. Larger cabins can be arranged on this route when the group needs one.
From €6 900 one way. Indicative starting price for this route, rounded down. The date, the aircraft actually available and airport fees move it — tell us your dates and we confirm within 30 minutes.
There is no published price for Nice to Madrid that we would be prepared to reprint, so the figure above is our own floor. Westbound the money is decided by different things than eastbound, and it is worth two minutes of your time to know which.
The first variable is where the aeroplane is when you call. Out of season the Riviera fleet thins and an aircraft may have to be brought to Nice to collect you, which puts a positioning leg inside your price; in season it is on the coast already, but so is everybody else's work, and the number then reflects what it gives up to fly you west. The second is what happens after you land. Barajas is the best-supplied business-aviation airport in Spain, so an aircraft that drops you there has a fair chance of onward work, and that shows up in what you pay. The third is the return: give us both directions together, because a round trip normally beats two one-ways when the aeroplane repositions once instead of twice.
Published hourly references for the class, so that you can test any quotation including ours: 4,600 to 7,300 EUR an hour for light jets in Europe (undated), from 2,900 EUR an hour elsewhere (19.02.2026), and 3,750 to 4,200 USD an hour (August 2026). Those are rates for a class of aircraft rather than a price for this sector, and a midsize cabin sits above the light-jet figures. It is also why Nice to Madrid and Madrid to Nice can be quoted at different numbers on the same date - for the aeroplane they are two separate flights.
Westbound the calendar belongs to Madrid, and Madrid's year is the opposite of the Riviera's. Spanish corporate travel runs hard from March to June and from September to November, falls away in July and stops almost completely in August - which is exactly when the coast is at its fullest. The practical consequence is that the two directions of this pair are difficult in different months.
| Period | What happens | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| March to June | The strongest corporate stretch in Madrid, so the arrival end is working at full stretch while the Riviera is still filling up. Board and legal traffic keeps the executive terminal at Barajas busy on weekday mornings. | Two to three weeks ahead for a weekday arrival. Say if you must be in central Madrid by a fixed hour and we will build the slot around that rather than around the aeroplane. |
| July | Spanish business begins to shut and much of Madrid moves to the coast, so the westbound flow thins while the eastbound one peaks. Aircraft drift towards the Balearics and the south. | A good month for short notice in this direction, and the best chance of finding a repositioning flight already going your way. |
| August | Madrid is effectively closed and the Riviera is at its tightest. Nothing about the arrival will be difficult; everything difficult is at the departure end, where handling windows and stands run out before aeroplanes do. | Book the Nice departure early even though Madrid is quiet. If the jet has been sitting on the coast with you, tell us - its stand is part of the price. |
| September to November | The autumn peak, usually the busiest quarter of the year for Spanish business flying, while the Riviera quietens week by week. This is when the sector is genuinely a business route rather than a seasonal one. | Book early for fair and congress weeks in Madrid. Outside them this is the easiest time of year to fly it and the best window for an empty leg. |
Seasonality reflects the Spanish business travel pattern and the Riviera season rather than a published seasonal index for this pair.
Madrid is a hub rather than a full stop. It has the widest choice of aircraft in Spain, the domestic sectors out of it are short, and it is where a private leg most often joins an intercontinental departure - so the trip usually continues on the same day.
Under an hour from Barajas, and the sector we fly most often for golf and property trips. If the week ends on the southern coast rather than in the capital, we price the whole thing as one trip.
Madrid to Malaga ›The busiest domestic business-jet pair in Spain and a routine leg when the day takes in both cities. Worth pairing with this flight if the meetings are in two places rather than one.
Madrid to Barcelona ›Palma is a short hop from Madrid and a common continuation in summer, when a good part of the Spanish fleet is pointed at the islands anyway.
Madrid to Palma de Mallorca ›Tell us your dates and how many of you there are. Your dedicated flight advisor will come back with aircraft options and a firm price.
All published routes are listed on the route index. Also useful: the fleet, current empty legs, jet sharing.
