Madrid to Malaga in about 58 minutes, 432 km from the business capital to the Costa del Sol. We will also tell you when the train is the better answer, because on this particular pair that is a genuine question rather than a polite one.
REQUEST A QUOTEThis is Spain's classic capital-to-coast pairing: meetings in Madrid in the morning, Marbella or Sotogrande by lunch. Madrid recorded 14,754 business-aviation movements in 2023 and Malaga 13,835 (EBAA 2023), so both ends are well supplied. It is also the only route in this section with a serious competitor on rails, and that shapes who charters it and why.
Madrid Barajas is a very large scheduled airport that also carries the bulk of Spanish business aviation, and Malaga keeps its general aviation traffic in a separate terminal away from the holiday crowds. Neither end is difficult. The interesting question on this route is what happens after you land.
| Airport | Codes | Distance | Suits you if |
|---|---|---|---|
| Madrid Barajas | MAD / LEMD | 432 km | The departure, with 14,754 business-aviation movements in 2023 (EBAA 2023). Because it is the Spanish business-aviation centre, the choice of light jets on any given morning is the widest in the country and short-notice availability is genuinely good. |
| Malaga Costa del Sol | AGP / LEMG | arrival | The arrival, with 13,835 business-aviation movements in 2023 (EBAA 2023). It has its own general aviation terminal, which is why arriving here privately in August feels nothing like arriving on a scheduled flight. Marbella and Puerto Banus are a straightforward drive west. |
| Jerez de la Frontera | XRY / LEJR | alternative arrival | Your destination is Sotogrande or the Costa de la Luz rather than Marbella. Tell us where you are actually going and we will price both arrivals so you can compare the flight and the drive together rather than separately. |

At 432 km and about 58 minutes this is a light-jet sector with room to spare, and the aircraft type is rarely the difficult decision. Party size is. Below three or four passengers the high-speed train starts to look sensible; above that, and especially with luggage or golf bags, the jet pulls ahead quickly.
The usual answer on Iberian domestic sectors. Fast, economical over an hour, and with enough hold for a set of golf clubs each - which on the Costa del Sol is not a joke but the main reason for the trip.
See the Phenom 300 ›Right for the small group crossing for a single day of meetings. Lower running cost than the Phenom, and on a fifty-eight-minute leg the difference in cabin size is not something anyone remembers afterwards.
See the Citation CJ2 ›The value option on a fixed date booked in advance. It gives up some speed, which over 432 km costs you a few minutes rather than anything that changes the plan.
See the Citation Bravo ›All three types are on our own fleet pages. Midsize cabins are arranged on this sector too when the group is larger.

We publish no price for Madrid to Malaga, and we would rather explain why than invent a headline. It is a short domestic sector with a strong rail alternative, which means the honest comparison is not jet against jet but jet against train - and that depends far more on your party than on the aeroplane.
Start with the competitor, because pretending it does not exist would be dishonest. The AVE high-speed line runs city centre to city centre several times a day, and for one or two people travelling on ordinary business hours it is often the better answer outright: no positioning, no handling, no drive to Barajas. The jet earns its cost in three situations. A group, where the cost splits and the train stops being cheap. An awkward hour, when the timetable simply does not go when you need to. And a connection, when you are joining or leaving a long-haul and the jet keeps the whole day airside.
When it is the jet, the price is driven by where the aircraft starts, how long it waits, and whether it can find work afterwards. Madrid is well supplied, which helps: an aeroplane based at Barajas costs less to put in front of you than one flown in from elsewhere. A same-day return with the aircraft standing at Malaga is priced very differently from two separate one-ways, and in July and August the coastal end is where the constraints appear. For scale only, others publish a European light-jet range of EUR 4,600 to 7,300 per hour, and others published USD 3,750 to 4,200 per hour for the class in August 2026 - those are hourly rates for a class of aircraft, not a price for this sector.
The Costa del Sol has one of the longest seasons in Europe, and Madrid keeps working through most of it. The result is a route with a summer leisure peak in one direction and a steady business flow in the other that never really stops.
| Period | What happens | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| June to September | The coastal peak. Malaga is busy with holiday traffic, Marbella is full, and demand runs heavily southbound on Thursdays and Fridays with the return on Sunday evening. | Two to three weeks ahead for a summer weekend. Midweek in the same months is far easier and usually cheaper. |
| July and August | Madrid empties out and much of Spanish business moves to the coast with it. Corporate demand on this pair actually softens while leisure demand peaks - the two partly cancel. | If your trip is business rather than leisure, this is a surprisingly good window for short-notice availability. |
| May and October | The shoulder, and arguably the best flying of the year on this pair. Warm on the coast, comfortable in Madrid, and no scramble for handling at either end. | A few days' notice is usually enough, including for a same-day return. |
| November to April | Quiet on the leisure side but this is the Costa del Sol golf season, when the courses are at their best and northern Europe comes south. Madrid business traffic carries on regardless. | Mention the golf bags when you enquire - they change which aircraft we propose, and on a light jet the hold is the constraint, not the seats. |
Malaga is a gateway rather than a destination for most of our passengers. The coast runs west towards Marbella and Sotogrande, and the same aircraft can carry on around the Mediterranean without you changing terminals.
Almost nobody on this sector is staying in Malaga itself. Puerto Banus, Sotogrande and the Marbella hotels are the real destinations, and the drive west from the general aviation terminal is the part of the day worth planning properly. Tell us the address and we will have the car waiting on the ramp side.
Arrange the transfer ›A large part of Malaga's private traffic arrives from London rather than Madrid. That is a much longer sector on a bigger aircraft, and it is priced in a different bracket entirely.
London to Malaga ›Malaga to Nice is the same sector we publish in reverse, and it is the usual next leg for anyone moving from the Costa del Sol to the Cote d'Azur in season.
