Malaga to Madrid by private jet takes about 58 min over 432 km, Malaga Costa del Sol to Madrid Barajas, normally on a light jet. From €4 500 for the whole aircraft, one way. The leg back up from the coast: 432 km and about 58 minutes from the Costa del Sol into Spain's business capital. We will also tell you when the train is the better answer, because on this pair that is a real question and not a polite one.
REQUEST A QUOTESpain's capital-and-coast pairing, read from the coastal end. Malaga recorded 13,835 business-aviation movements in 2023 and Madrid 14,754 (EBAA 2023), so neither end is short of aircraft - but the direction matters to the price, because a northbound leg is cheapest when the aeroplane is already standing on the coast. The other thing that shapes this route is that it has a serious competitor on rails, and going north the comparison is at its sharpest: the AVE arrives in the middle of Madrid, while Barajas is a drive out. What buys the flight back is usually a group, an hour the timetable does not serve, or a long-haul waiting at the far end.
Neither end of this flight is difficult. Malaga keeps general aviation in a terminal of its own, away from the holiday crowds, so leaving the coast is quick even in August. Madrid Barajas is a very large scheduled airport that also carries the bulk of Spanish business aviation, and what is worth thinking about in advance is what you are doing after you land there.
| Airport | Codes | Distance | Suits you if |
|---|---|---|---|
| Malaga Costa del Sol | AGP / LEMG | 432 km | Where the leg starts: 13,835 business-aviation movements in 2023 (EBAA 2023), with its own general aviation terminal, which is why leaving the coast privately in August feels nothing like leaving on a scheduled flight. Marbella and Puerto Banus lie a straightforward drive to the west of it. |
| Jerez de la Frontera | XRY / LEJR | departure alternative | The better start when you are coming from Sotogrande or the Costa de la Luz rather than from Marbella. Tell us the address you are actually leaving from and we will price both departures so that you can weigh the drive and the flight together instead of separately. |
| Madrid Barajas | MAD / LEMD | arrival | Where the leg ends: 14,754 business-aviation movements in 2023 (EBAA 2023), and the centre of Spanish business aviation. That matters most on arrival if you are connecting - a long-haul out of Barajas can be joined without leaving the airport, which is one of the few things the train cannot answer. It is a large scheduled field, so allow for the drive into the city if Madrid itself is where you are going. |

432 km and about 58 minutes: light-jet work with room to spare, and the type is rarely the hard decision on this pair. The party is. Below three or four passengers the high-speed train starts to look sensible; above that, and particularly with luggage or golf bags coming home with you, the aircraft pulls ahead quickly.
The usual answer on Iberian domestic sectors: quick, economical over an hour, and with hold enough for a set of golf clubs each - which on the Costa del Sol is the reason for the trip rather than a joke.
See the Phenom 300 ›Right for a small group going up for a single day of meetings. Lower running cost than the Phenom, and over fifty-eight minutes nobody remembers the difference in cabin size afterwards.
See the Citation CJ2 ›The value option when the date is fixed and booked in advance. It gives up some speed, which across 432 km costs a few minutes rather than anything that changes the plan.
See the Citation Bravo ›All three types appear on our own fleet pages. Midsize cabins are arranged for this sector as well when the group is larger.

We publish no price for Malaga to Madrid and would rather explain that than invent a headline. This is a short domestic sector with a strong rail alternative, so the honest comparison is not one aircraft against another but the aircraft against the train - and that turns on your party and your hour far more than on the aeroplane.
Take the competitor first, because pretending it is not there would be dishonest. The AVE runs city centre to city centre several times a day and puts you in the middle of Madrid with no drive out to Barajas at the end of it; for one or two people travelling in ordinary business hours it is often simply the better answer. The flight earns its cost in three situations. A group, where the cost splits and the train stops being cheap. An awkward hour, when the timetable does not go when you need to go. And a connection, when a long-haul is waiting at Barajas and the aircraft keeps the whole day airside.
When it is the aircraft, the number comes from where that aircraft starts, how long it waits and whether it has work after you. Going north, the good case is an aeroplane already standing on the coast; the expensive case is one that has to come down empty to collect you, and on a leg of under an hour that positioning flight can be the larger half of the bill. A same-day return with the aircraft waiting at Malaga is priced quite differently from two separate one-ways, and in July and August it is the coastal end where the constraints show up. For scale only, others publish a European light-jet range of EUR 4,600 to 7,300 per hour, and others published USD 3,750 to 4,200 per hour for the class in August 2026 - those are hourly rates for a class of aircraft, not a price for this sector.
The Costa del Sol has one of the longest seasons in Europe and Madrid works through most of it, so this pair carries a summer leisure peak one way and a business flow the other that never really stops. Northbound, the peak is the end of the weekend rather than the start of it.
| Period | What happens | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| June to September | The coastal peak. Malaga is full of holiday traffic and Marbella is busy, and in this direction the weight falls on Sunday evening, when the weekend parties all want to be back in Madrid at once. | Two to three weeks ahead for a Sunday out of Malaga. Midweek in the same months is far easier and usually cheaper, so move the return by a day if you can. |
| July and August | Madrid empties out and a good deal of Spanish business moves to the coast with it. Corporate demand on this pair softens exactly as leisure demand peaks, and the two partly cancel. | If the trip is business rather than leisure, this is a surprisingly good window for short-notice availability in this direction. |
| May and October | The shoulder, and arguably the best flying of the year on this pair. Warm on the coast, comfortable at the Madrid end, and no scramble for handling at either. | A few days' notice is normally enough, a same-day return included. |
| November to April | Quiet on the leisure side, but this is the Costa del Sol golf season, when the courses are at their best and northern Europe comes south. Madrid business traffic carries on regardless of any of it. | Mention the golf bags when you enquire - going home they decide which aircraft we propose, because on a light jet the hold runs out before the seats do. |
For most of our passengers Madrid is a connection rather than the end of the journey. The same aircraft can carry straight on, and the sector below is a route we already fly.
A natural continuation of the same trip: the aircraft that brings you here can carry straight on.
