An hour eastbound across Spain, on the busiest domestic business-jet pair in the country. Whole-aircraft charter, empty legs and short-notice departures, arranged around the clock.
REQUEST A QUOTEThis pair has been named Spain's busiest domestic business-jet route, with flights up 16 percent in the 2024 year to date (WingX Global Market Tracker, reported by BlueSky Business Aviation News, issue 734, 2024). EBAA counted 14,754 business-aviation movements at Madrid Barajas in 2023 and 12,068 at Barcelona El Prat. Neither is a business-aviation field, so on an hour-long sector the whole game is played on the ground - and flown eastbound the ground that matters is at the far end, where a stand for your aircraft is scarcer than a landing.
Neither end of this route is a dedicated business-aviation field, which is the single most important thing to understand about it: you are a guest at two large scheduled airports, using their executive terminals. Leaving Madrid that costs you nothing worth discussing. Arriving in Barcelona it decides where the aircraft can stand, and in the wrong week that is the whole conversation.
| Airport | Codes | Distance | Suits you if |
|---|---|---|---|
| Madrid Barajas | MAD / LEMD | 483 km | Where you start, and the only realistic departure for most jets. You use the executive aviation terminal rather than the passenger halls, so the process is short - but the field is a busy scheduled hub and your departure slot sits inside its traffic rather than beside it. |
| Madrid Cuatro Vientos | LECU | departure alternative | The general-aviation field on the south-western side of Madrid, and genuinely closer for some addresses. It is not the default for a jet and it does not suit every type, so ask us before you plan around it and we will say whether the aircraft we are proposing can use it. |
| Barcelona El Prat | BCN / LEBL | arrival | Where you want to land: close to the city, with a general-aviation terminal of its own. The constraint is parking rather than the approach. In high summer and in congress weeks the space for an aircraft to sit and wait for you is genuinely scarce, and that is worth settling at the enquiry rather than on the day. |
| Girona | GRO / LEGE | arrival alternative | North of Barcelona and the better answer if you are going to the Costa Brava or the Emporda golf and wine country rather than into the city. It is also the honest fallback when El Prat has no room in a peak week - ask us to compare it against the drive to your actual address. |

At 483 km, 261 nautical miles, this is one of the shortest jet sectors in Europe and every light jet does it comfortably, so the choice is about seats and luggage and never about range. With barely an hour in the air, where the aeroplane happens to be that morning affects your price more than anything about the aeroplane itself.
The most widely available light jet in Spain and the usual proposal for a board party or a legal team doing both cities inside a day. Enough hold for sample cases, or for golf bags if you are carrying on to the coast afterwards.
See the Phenom 300 ›Smaller and very economical, which is exactly right on a sector where you are barely airborne for an hour. Good value when there are two or three of you and nothing unusual in the hold.
See the Citation CJ2 ›An older light jet that still flies this leg without difficulty. Worth naming when the budget matters more than the cabin and your departure hour can move a little to suit whatever is free that morning.
See the Citation Bravo ›All three types appear on our own fleet pages. Larger cabins can be arranged on this route for bigger groups.
From €4 700 one way. Indicative starting price for this route, rounded down. The date, the aircraft actually available and airport fees move it — tell us your dates and we confirm within 30 minutes.
We have not found a published price for this pair from a source we would be prepared to reprint, so we are not going to put an invented figure in a table. Here instead is what genuinely moves the number when you are flying east, and the hourly rates the market publishes for the class you would be in.
On a one-hour sector the flying is the small part of the bill. What dominates is where the aircraft starts and what it has to do next. A jet already at Barajas with a crew on duty gives you a keen quotation; one that has to come in from Palma or Valencia to collect you puts that positioning inside your price. The second variable belongs to the arrival: in summer and in congress weeks a stand at El Prat is a scarce thing, so an aircraft that waits for you there is paying for the privilege, and it is sometimes cheaper for it to leave and come back than to sit. The third is whether you are coming home the same day. A round trip with the aircraft standing by is usually better value than two separate one-ways, and we will price it both ways so you can see the difference rather than take our word for it.
As a sanity check on any quotation, ours included: brokers publish 4,600 to 7,300 EUR an hour for light jets in Europe (undated), others publish rates from 2,900 EUR an hour (19.02.2026), and others 3,750 to 4,200 USD an hour (August 2026). Those are hourly rates for the class, not a price for this route, and they do not include the positioning that dominates a sector this short.
A corporate route with a congress season bolted on to the arrival end. It works hard in spring and autumn, hollows out completely in August when Spanish business stops, and tightens sharply whenever a large congress fills Barcelona - which is felt as parking rather than as a shortage of aircraft.
| Period | What happens | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Late February and early March | The Mobile World Congress fills Barcelona and much of what flies in Spain seems to be pointed at El Prat in the same week. Handling, stands and cars all tighten together, and the aircraft is the easiest of the four to find. | Book as early as you can, and expect us to propose a jet that drops you and departs rather than one that waits on stand. Girona is worth pricing in this week even if you are going into the city. |
| March to June | The strongest corporate stretch of the year. Board and legal traffic runs constantly between the two cities and the Barcelona fair calendar adds bursts on top of it. | Two to three weeks ahead for a weekday morning. Tell us if your date falls in a congress week and we will confirm the stand at the Barcelona end as well as the flight. |
| July and August | Spanish corporate travel falls away and August is effectively closed. What traffic there is heads for the Balearics and the southern coast, and the light jets follow it. | The easiest weeks of the year to charter at short notice, and the best chance of an empty leg, because aircraft are repositioning towards Palma and Ibiza more or less continuously. |
| September to November | The autumn peak, usually the busiest quarter of the year for Spanish domestic business flying, with the Barcelona trade-fair calendar running alongside it. | Book early for fair weeks. If El Prat has no room, ask us to compare Girona honestly against the ground journey to the address you are actually going to. |
Seasonality reflects the Spanish business travel pattern and the Barcelona congress calendar rather than a published seasonal index for this pair.
Barcelona is usually a stop rather than an ending. The Balearics, the Riviera and the southern Spanish coast are all short sectors on the same aircraft, and they are routes we already run - which also answers what the jet should do instead of waiting on a scarce stand.
Palma is a short hop from El Prat and a common continuation for a summer trip. It is also where a lot of the empty-leg traffic on the Spanish east coast comes from.
Palma to Barcelona ›Nice is a short sector up the coast, which makes a Madrid, Barcelona and Cote d'Azur week practical on one aircraft without a change of crew.
Nice to Barcelona ›Malaga and the Costa del Sol are within easy reach from either Spanish end, and we fly the Madrid leg regularly for golf and property trips.
Madrid to Malaga ›Tell us your dates and how many of you there are. Your dedicated flight advisor will come back with aircraft options and a firm price.
All published routes are listed on the route index. Also useful: the fleet, current empty legs, jet sharing.
