The route at a glance

Madrid is where the working day starts on this sector and the Cote d'Azur is where it ends, and unlike the Spanish domestic sectors we publish out of Barajas there is no railway to argue with: 957 km across Spain and then out over the Gulf of Lion, the last third of it over water, on an aircraft rather than a timetable. The two ends are opposites. Barajas recorded 14,754 business-aviation movements in 2023 and absorbs them inside a very large scheduled hub; Nice recorded 37,425 in the same year, second in Europe behind Paris Le Bourget, and keeps them in a business terminal of its own (EBAA 2023). Nearly everything that shapes your day happens at the Nice end.

Distance is the great-circle figure between airport coordinates. Flight time is an estimate, not a measured block time: it comes from a simple model fitted to the flight times Diamond Executive Aero Services already publishes on this website, and it will move with routing, wind, slots and aircraft type. Your quotation carries the real schedule.

Which airports we use

The departure is straightforward; the arrival is the decision. At Barajas you use the executive aviation terminal, the process is short, and on any given morning there is more choice of aircraft than anywhere else in Spain. At the far end the question is which Riviera field you actually want: Nice for almost everyone, Cannes Mandelieu if the party is small and Cannes is the address, and Monaco reached by helicopter off the Nice ramp rather than by aeroplane at all.

AirportCodesDistanceSuits you if
Madrid BarajasMAD / LEMD957 kmThe departure, and the only realistic one for most jets. 14,754 business-aviation movements in 2023 (EBAA 2023): it is the centre of Spanish business aviation, so short-notice availability out of Madrid is genuinely good. You use the executive terminal rather than the passenger halls, though your departure slot sits inside the airport's scheduled traffic.
Madrid Cuatro VientosLECUdeparture alternativeThe general-aviation field on the south-western side of Madrid, and closer for some addresses. It is not the default for a jet and it does not suit every type, so ask us before you plan around it and we will say whether the aircraft we are proposing can use it.
Nice Cote d'AzurNCE / LFMNarrivalAlmost everyone. 37,425 business-aviation movements in 2023, second in Europe after Paris Le Bourget (EBAA 2023), and business aviation is handled in its own terminal away from the scheduled halls - which is why arriving here privately in August bears no resemblance to arriving on an airline.
Cannes MandelieuCEQ / LFMDarrival alternative24 km west of Nice, and a different airport rather than a different door of the same one. Right when Cannes is the address and the party is small. It is a smaller field with limits on aircraft size, so tell us the group and the luggage before we commit to it.
Monacono runwayonward by helicopterNot an alternative to Nice but the last leg from it. Monaco has no runway, so the transfer is flown by helicopter from the Nice ramp and takes minutes. Say Monaco at the enquiry and we book the helicopter together with the jet.

Aircraft for Madrid to Nice

At 957 km, 517 nautical miles, this is longer than the Spanish domestic hops we usually fly out of Barajas, and it moves the sector out of pure light-jet territory into the light and midsize band. All three types below do it non-stop with reserves to spare. What decides the choice is how many of you there are and what is going in the hold, because an hour and a half is long enough for the cabin to begin to matter.

Embraer Phenom 300

The most widely available light jet in Spain, so usually the quickest thing to arrange out of Madrid and the keenest price for four or five people. Over 957 km it is comfortable rather than generous: right for a working flight, tight if the summer luggage is coming as well.

See the Phenom 300 ›

Cessna Citation XLS+

The sensible middle of this sector. A stand-up midsize cabin, a hold that takes a family's cases or the golf, and a type that is common on the Cote d'Azur - which helps on the dates when the aircraft has to be found at the Nice end rather than at the Madrid one.

See the Citation XLS+ ›

Hawker 800XP

The one to name when there are seven or eight of you, or when the price of a midsize cabin matters more than the year of manufacture. It flies this leg without effort and in season it is often what is actually free on your date.

All three types are on our own fleet pages. Larger cabins are arranged on this sector too when the group needs one.

What it costs

From €6 900 one way. Indicative starting price for this route, rounded down. The date, the aircraft actually available and airport fees move it — tell us your dates and we confirm within 30 minutes.

We have found no published route price for Madrid to Nice from a source we would be prepared to reprint, so the figure above is our own floor rather than somebody else's number. What follows is what genuinely moves it, and almost all of it lives at the arrival end.

On a sector of an hour and a half the flying is a minority of the bill. The largest variable is where the aircraft starts and what it does next. Madrid is well supplied, so an aeroplane already at Barajas with a crew on duty gives you a keen quotation, while one flown in from Palma, Valencia or the Riviera to collect you puts that positioning leg inside your price. The second variable belongs to Nice. In season the Cote d'Azur is the hardest-worked business-aviation airport in Europe outside Paris, and handling windows and overnight stands there run out well before aircraft do: a jet that waits three days for you on the coast is charging for the privilege, and one that drops you and picks up Riviera work is not. Say at the enquiry whether you are coming back, because a return normally prices better than two one-ways.

As a sanity check on any quotation, ours included: brokers publish 4,600 to 7,300 EUR an hour for light jets in Europe (undated), others publish rates from 2,900 EUR an hour (19.02.2026), and others 3,750 to 4,200 USD an hour (August 2026). Those are hourly rates for a class of aircraft rather than a price for this route, and a midsize cabin sits above the light-jet band. It is also why Madrid to Nice and Nice to Madrid can come back at different numbers on the same date: for the aeroplane they are two separate flights with different consequences.

The figures above are third-party published material, printed so that you can test any quotation you receive - ours included. They are not our offer and they bind nobody. Only a written quotation from Diamond Executive Aero Services, against your dates, is a price. Call +357 95 119759, 24/7.

When to fly, and when to book early

The two ends of this pair keep opposite calendars, which is the useful thing to know about it. Madrid works hard from March to June and again from September to November, and shuts almost completely in August. The Riviera does the reverse. Because it is the arrival that runs out of room, the Nice season sets the notice you need in this direction.

PeriodWhat happensWhat to do
MayThe Cote d'Azur event fortnight. Nice is under real pressure while Madrid is in one of its strongest working months, so the traffic is heavy and both slots and stands at the arrival end tighten together.Book the Nice end as early as you can, and expect us to propose an aircraft that drops you and departs rather than one that waits on the coast.
June to SeptemberThe Riviera season, with the arrival as the constraint throughout. Madrid empties out through July and August as Spanish business stops, which makes the aeroplane easier to find at the departure end in exactly the weeks the arrival is hardest. Two to three weeks out for a summer weekend. Tell us whether the jet stays with you, because an overnight stand at Nice in August is a bigger ask than the flight itself.
AugustThe tightest weeks on the coast and the quietest in Madrid. Handling windows and parking at Nice are what run out, not aeroplanes, and a late departure from Barajas can cost you an arrival slot rather than merely time.Six to eight weeks out for firm dates. A same-day return removes the parking question entirely.
October to AprilThe coast quietens, the Spanish corporate calendar picks up again from September to November, and jets drift back between the Riviera, Geneva and the Alps. The best window for empty legs and for a same-day return at short notice. Give us the week and we will watch it.

Seasonality reflects the Riviera business-aviation season and the Spanish corporate calendar rather than a published seasonal index for this pair.

Onward from Nice

Hardly anyone on this sector is staying at the airport end of Nice. The coast runs east to Monaco and Italy and west to Cannes and Saint-Tropez, and the same aircraft - or a helicopter off the same ramp - carries on without you changing terminals.

Into Monaco by helicopter

Monaco has no runway, so the last few minutes are flown rather than driven. The helicopter leaves from the Nice ramp, which is the reason nobody sensible plans the coast road in August. Say Monaco when you enquire and both legs are arranged as one trip.

East to Milan

The aircraft that brings you here can carry straight on over the Ligurian coast. It is a short sector we already run in both directions, and a common second leg for a week that takes in northern Italy.

Nice to Milan ›

Across to Sardinia

Olbia in season is the natural continuation from the Riviera, and it is the sector that keeps a good part of the coastal fleet moving in July and August.

Questions we get about this route

How long is a private jet flight from Madrid to Nice?
About 1 hour 37 minutes over 957 km, and much the same figure comes back the other way: at this distance the wind moves it by a few minutes rather than by anything you would plan around. The estimate comes from a model fitted to the flight times this website already publishes rather than from a measured block time. The bigger saving is on the ground, because the executive terminal at Barajas and the business terminal at Nice both put you on board shortly before departure instead of an hour and a half before it.
How much does a private jet from Madrid to Nice cost?
From EUR 6 900 one way for the whole aircraft, as a floor rather than a fixed price. We found no published figure for this pair that we would be willing to reprint, so that is our own starting point and not somebody else's. Published hourly rates for the class run from 2,900 EUR an hour up to 4,600 to 7,300 EUR an hour depending on the broker page, and a midsize cabin sits at the upper end of that - useful for sanity-checking a quotation, not a route price. Send us your dates.
Should we land at Nice or at Cannes Mandelieu?
Nice, unless Cannes is genuinely where you are going. Cannes Mandelieu is a separate airport 24 km west of Nice rather than a second terminal at the same field, and it is smaller, with limits on the size of aircraft it will accept. If the party is small and the address is Cannes it saves you the coast road; if there are eight of you with luggage it will not take the aeroplane you need. Tell us the group and the address and we will price both arrivals.
How do we get to Monaco from Nice?
By helicopter, from the ramp at Nice. Monaco has no runway of its own, so this is the standard arrangement rather than an upgrade, and it takes minutes against an hour or more on the road in season. Ask for it at the enquiry and the helicopter is booked together with the jet, so the transfer is not something you organise after landing.
Is there a border or customs formality?
No. Spain and France are both in the European Union and both inside the Schengen area, so this is an internal flight with nothing to pre-arrange at either end. Bring photographic identification, because the handling agents at both terminals will ask for it, and tell us in advance if anyone on board holds a passport from outside Schengen.
Where does the aircraft park while we are on the Riviera?
This is the question worth asking before any other on this direction. Nice is the second busiest business-aviation airport in Europe, and in July and August its stands are scarcer than its landing slots. Either the aircraft waits, which costs whatever a Riviera stand costs that week, or it drops you and comes back, which in high season is often the cheaper of the two. Give us both dates together and we will tell you which one your trip deserves.
Are there empty legs between Madrid and Nice?
Yes, and both ends generate them. Spanish jets reposition constantly between Madrid, Palma, Ibiza and Malaga, and the Riviera fleet rarely finishes the day where it started, so this corridor throws up flights with nobody aboard in both directions. Those are sold at a large discount to whoever can travel when they go, and the catch is always the date rather than the aircraft. See the current empty legs.
Can I book a last-minute private jet from Madrid to Nice?
Often yes, and the Madrid end helps: Barajas is the best-supplied business-aviation airport in Spain, so there is usually something suitable within reach at a few hours' notice. What decides it in the season is the arrival rather than our willingness - the slot and the handling window at Nice. Call the operations desk on +357 95 119759, which answers around the clock, and we will tell you straight away whether your timing works instead of promising and checking later. Ask about last-minute empty legs in the same call.
