Private Jet Charter Mykonos to Athens

Mykonos to Athens is 136 km and about 35 minutes in the air – the shortest sector we publish, and the one where the flying matters least. Leaving Mykonos in season needs a slot and prior permission, and the island holds ground time to around forty minutes because it does not park private aircraft in the peak. Indicative price from €6 200 for the whole aircraft, one way. +357 95 119759, any hour.

Thirty-five minutes across the Aegean, a domestic hop inside Greece with no border and no paperwork beyond the ordinary. Everything that can go wrong with this trip happens on the ground at the island end, and all of it is manageable if you tell us the hour early enough. Whole aircraft, single seats and empty legs, arranged 24/7.

The route at a glance

A very short sector between a very constrained airport and a very capable one. Mykonos is one small airport carrying an enormous summer: a slot and prior permission are both required, parking is finite, night operations are restricted, and in peak season ground time is held to around forty minutes because the island simply does not park private aircraft. Athens, by contrast, offers full business-aviation handling around the clock and is the base most island trips start from – and the usual repositioning field for the aircraft that cannot stay on Mykonos.

The distance is a great-circle figure between airport coordinates, so the track actually flown is longer than it. The time is a model estimate and not a measured block time: the model is fitted to flight times Diamond Executive Aero Services already publishes on this website, it makes no distinction between the outbound and the return, and routing, wind, slots and aircraft type all move it. Which airports we use

One field at each end and no alternatives worth listing – which is unusual, and the reason this page spends its time on the clock rather than on a choice of airports.

Aircraft for Mykonos to Athens

A hundred and thirty-six kilometres asks nothing of an aircraft at all. What the island asks about is size and turnaround: something that fits the slot, does not need parking, and can be away again inside the window.

Light jet

The natural answer on a sector this short, and the easiest aircraft to fit into a restricted island slot. Six passengers and normal luggage, airborne and down again inside an hour.

Midsize jet

For a larger party or the luggage a long stay generates. Entirely comfortable in the air; the question is the ground, and we confirm the slot for the actual aircraft rather than in general.

Helicopter

Worth naming, because on Aegean hops it is sometimes the better tool – particularly between islands, where it avoids the runway question entirely.

What it costs

Indicative price from €6 200 for the whole aircraft, one way. That is a striking figure next to thirty-five minutes of flying, and the explanation is entirely on the ground.

On a sector this short the flying is a rounding error. What you are paying for is an aircraft and a crew positioned at a small island airport in the middle of its season, a slot that had to be secured in advance, and the fact that the aeroplane cannot wait around afterwards – it has to go somewhere, usually Athens, and that repositioning is part of your trip whether or not you are aboard for it.

Which is also where the saving lives. Aircraft leave Mykonos empty constantly in high season, precisely because they cannot stay. If your date and hour have any give in them, this is one of the best corridors in Europe on which to ask about an empty leg.

When to fly, and when to book early

The season is short and violent: late June to the end of September, with August the peak. Outside it Mykonos is a quiet island airport and this sector is unremarkable in every way.

Inside it, book as early as you can and give us the hour rather than the day. The slot and the prior permission are the whole game, and they are finite. A party that tells us «Tuesday, late morning» three weeks out will fly close to the hour they wanted; a party that asks on the morning will fly when the island lets them.

Night operations are restricted, so a late departure is a different question from a late booking. If your evening is uncertain, say so at the enquiry and we will plan the return with that in mind rather than discover it after dinner.

Onward from Athens

Athens is where most island itineraries connect to the rest of the world, and the second leg is easier arranged with the first.

Athens to Dubai

The long leg east, and a common continuation when the Aegean was a stop on the way somewhere further rather than the point of the trip.

Athens to Dubai ›

Athens to Paris

North-west into Europe in about three hours, and the usual shape when the Aegean was the holiday and the continent is the way home.

Athens to London

The other common way home from the islands, and a sector we publish in its own right.

Questions we get about this route

How long is Mykonos to Athens?
About 35 minutes in the air over 136 km. Ground time at Mykonos is held to around forty minutes in season, which means the ground is longer than the flight. The flying figure is a model estimate fitted to the flight times we publish ourselves rather than a measured block time.
Why does leaving Mykonos need prior permission?
Because it is one small airport carrying an enormous summer. A slot and prior permission are both required, parking is finite and night operations are restricted. In peak season the island does not park private aircraft at all, which is why ground time is held short and why the hour has to be arranged rather than chosen on the day.
Is there a border to cross?
No. Mykonos and Athens are both in Greece, so this is a domestic flight: no passport desk and nothing to file beyond the ordinary. Identification should be carried for the handling agent.
Why does thirty-five minutes cost from €6 200?
Because you are not buying thirty-five minutes. You are buying an aircraft and crew positioned at a small island airport in the middle of its season, a slot secured in advance, and the aeroplane's onward movement – it cannot wait on Mykonos, so it repositions afterwards whether or not you are aboard. That is the honest arithmetic of island flying.
Can the aircraft wait for us and bring us back?
In peak season, generally not on the island itself – there is no parking for it. The usual arrangement is that it repositions to Athens and returns for you, which is why a same-day return is quoted as two movements rather than one wait. Outside the peak this relaxes considerably.
We want another island, not Athens. What then?
Then we quote the island directly. Santorini, Paros, Naxos and the rest are short hops from Mykonos, and routing through the mainland to reach one of them adds a leg you do not need. Tell us the destination and we will name the field and the aircraft that suits it.
Are there empty legs from Mykonos?
More than almost anywhere, and for a structural reason: aircraft cannot stay on the island in high season, so they leave empty constantly. The discount range brokers publish is 50 to 75 percent. The trade is that the hour belongs to somebody else's schedule. Current empty legs
How late can we book?
Out of season, the same morning. In August the slot is the binding constraint and it is worth as much notice as you can give. Call the operations desk on +357 95 119759, staffed twenty-four hours a day, and you will be told which hours genuinely exist on your date.
