The route at a glance

This is one of the two or three most flown short sectors in European business aviation. WingX-Advance ranked Geneva-Nice third in Europe on 2013 data at 69 flights a month one way and 71 the other, and the operator brokers named it its single busiest city pair in September 2024. The reason is structural rather than fashionable: Geneva recorded 34,273 business-aviation movements in 2023 and Nice 37,425, the two fields peak in opposite seasons, and aircraft therefore spend the year commuting between them.

Distance is the great-circle figure between airport coordinates from the OurAirports open dataset. Your quotation carries the real schedule.

Which airports we use

Both ends are single obvious airports, so the interesting choice on this route is not the departure field but the arrival one: Nice or Cannes.

AirportCodesGreat-circleSuits you if
GenevaGVA / LSGGdepartureThe only jet field that makes sense for the western Alps and the Lake Geneva shore. In winter it is the arrival airport for Verbier, Megeve and Chamonix; in summer it is a city departure.
Nice Cote d'AzurNCE / LFMN300 kmEurope's second busiest business-aviation airport and the Riviera gateway. Its business terminal is separate from the scheduled ones, and Monaco is a short helicopter transfer away.
Cannes MandelieuCEQ / LFMD306 kmTwenty-four kilometres further west than Nice and better if the Croisette is the destination. It accepts business jets up to a certain size, so tell us the group and we will say which field works.

Aircraft for Geneva to Nice

Three hundred kilometres is a light-jet sector by any measure, and on a flight this short a bigger aeroplane buys you nothing but a bigger bill. The aircraft spends most of the sector climbing over the Alps and then descending to the coast; cruise is a matter of minutes.

Embraer Phenom 300

Six to eight passengers, 2.27 cubic metres of hold. The type most often available at Geneva at short notice, and comfortable enough that the shortness of the flight is the only thing you notice about it.

See the Embraer Phenom 300 ›

Cessna Citation CJ2+

Six to seven passengers. The economical answer on a sector this short - you are paying for roughly fifty minutes of engine time, and the CJ2+ keeps that number as small as it goes on a jet.

See the Cessna Citation CJ2+ ›

Citation Bravo

Six to seven passengers with a 2.07 cubic metre hold. Unhurried, quiet and well suited to a leisure crossing with real luggage. This is the type used in our own published Larnaca-Geneva empty-leg example.

All three types are on our own fleet pages. If the group is larger, a Citation XLS+ or Hawker 800XP flies the same sector without difficulty.

Because this pairing is so heavily flown, more brokers publish reference prices for it than for almost any other short sector in Europe. Here they are, with their sources, including the return direction.

When to fly, and when to book early

Unusually, this route has two high seasons and they belong to opposite ends of it. That is the whole economics of the sector in one sentence.

PeriodWhat happensWhat to do
December to MarchThe Alpine season fills Geneva. Traffic on this pairing in these months is largely southbound positioning and Riviera residents going up to the snow.Book Saturdays three to four weeks out. Midweek is usually available at a few days' notice.
MayThe Riviera's two heaviest weeks - the Cannes Film Festival and the Monaco Grand Prix fall within a fortnight of each other, and Nice absorbs both.Six to eight weeks. Nice slots and Riviera handling run out well before aircraft do.
June to SeptemberThe Mediterranean season. Nice was top of the European business-aviation airport table in August and September 2021 in EUROCONTROL's count. Two to three weeks for a weekend. Friday evening southbound is the pinch point.
October, November, AprilNeither end is at its peak. Aircraft are repositioning between Geneva, Nice and London and the corridor is full of them. The best empty-leg window of the year on this pairing.

Questions we get about this route

How long is the flight from Geneva to Nice by private jet?
About fifty minutes. The great-circle distance is 300 km and our model gives 0 h 48. On a sector this short the aircraft is climbing and descending for most of it, so the difference between a light jet and a large one is negligible.
How much does a private jet from Geneva to Nice cost?
Brokers publish around 5,800 EUR for a four-seat Phenom 100, around 9,400 EUR for an eight-seat PC-24 and around 12,000 EUR for an eight-seat Hawker 700-750, one way, whole aircraft (retrieved August 2026). The reverse direction is published slightly dearer. Those are other people's estimates, not our offer - ask us for a real quotation.
Why is Nice to Geneva more expensive than Geneva to Nice?
Because the price of a charter is mostly the price of getting the aircraft to you and then getting it to wherever it is needed next. In the published brokers figures the northbound leg runs a few hundred to a couple of thousand euros dearer on the same types. On any given day the positioning picture can reverse that, which is exactly why a table is not a quotation.
Is Geneva to Nice really one of Europe's busiest routes?
By the last public count, yes. WingX-Advance ranked it third among European city pairs on January-June 2013 data, at 69 and 71 flights a month in the two directions, and brokers reported it as its own busiest city pair in September 2024. No ranked table of European pairs has been published openly since 2013, so we quote the year with the figure.
Can I fly into Cannes instead of Nice?
Often, yes. Cannes Mandelieu is 306 km from Geneva against 300 km to Nice, so the flight is effectively the same length, and it puts you 24 km closer to the Croisette. It takes business jets up to a certain size, so tell us the aircraft you want and the number of passengers and we will tell you whether it works.
Are there empty legs between Geneva and Nice?
This is one of the best pairings in Europe for them. The two airports peak in different seasons, so aircraft are constantly repositioning in one direction or the other with nobody on board. Current empty legs.
Can I buy a single seat on this route?
On flights we open for sharing, yes. You book the seats you need and the cost of the aircraft is split between the passengers on board. More about jet sharing.
How late can I book Geneva to Nice?
We can have you airborne within four hours of confirmation, subject to aircraft and slot availability. Both airports are slot-constrained in their own high season, and in Nice in May the slot is usually the binding constraint rather than the aeroplane.
Can I book a last-minute private jet from Geneva to Nice?
Often yes, and this is the most common way this route is booked. A last-minute charter means the aircraft, the crew and the airport slots have to line up at short notice: when they do, we have put people in the air within a few hours of the first call. What decides it is where a suitable aircraft happens to be and whether the windows at both ends are open, not our willingness. Call the operations desk on +357 95 119759 — it answers around the clock — and we will tell you straight away whether your timing is achievable rather than promise and check later. Last-minute empty legs on this corridor are worth asking about at the same time.
