The route at a glance

The deep end of this pairing is the one you are leaving. EBAA counted 25,866 business-aviation movements at Zurich in 2023 against 14,508 at Amsterdam Schiphol, so a suitable light jet is more likely to be standing at the Swiss end already than to need bringing there - which is the most useful single thing to know about departing this way. Two clocks then decide the day: the Zurich night restriction, which governs the hour you can get away, and the Schiphol slot, which governs the hour you can land. Switzerland is inside Schengen and outside the EU customs union, so what changes on arrival in the Netherlands is the paperwork on what you are carrying, not the check on your passport.

Distance is the great-circle figure between airport coordinates. The flight time is an estimate rather than a measured block time: it comes from a simple model fitted to the times Diamond Executive Aero Services already publishes on this website, and routing, wind, slots and aircraft type all move it. Leaving Zurich, the restriction on the hour is more likely to shape your day than the minutes in the air. The quotation you receive carries the real schedule.

Which airports we use

Neither end is a dedicated business-aviation field: both are large scheduled hubs where a private jet is a small customer among the airlines. Leaving Zurich, the question is the hour, because the night restriction is what a departure is agreed against. Landing in the Netherlands, the question is the slot and the stand - which is why the two relief fields below are worth a look before you assume the hub.

A night restriction applies, so a late evening departure is settled before you book rather than on the day.
Amsterdam SchipholAMS / EHAMarrivalWhere the leg ends, and the end that needs the planning. Slot-coordinated, so the landing window is booked in advance rather than picked on the morning, with business aviation handled at its own general aviation terminal. 14,508 business-aviation movements in 2023 (EBAA 2023). Suits you if you are going into Amsterdam itself or connecting onto a long-haul departure.

Aircraft for Zurich to Amsterdam

603 km, 326 nautical miles: light-jet work, about 1 h 10 in the air, and every type below covers it with room in hand. Nothing in the flying argues for a larger cabin. The load in the hold does - on the Sunday legs coming down out of the Alps, hard ski bags and boot bags settle the aircraft long before the seat count gets a say.

Embraer Phenom 300

The workhorse on northern European sectors of this length. Economical over 603 km, and with the hold a party coming off the mountain actually needs, which through the winter is the whole of the argument.

Cessna Citation CJ2

Lighter and cheaper, and the sensible answer when a small group has finished in Zurich by lunchtime and is going home the same day with briefcases rather than a week of luggage.

See the Citation CJ2 ›

Cessna Citation Bravo

The value choice when the dates are fixed and the trip is short. Over a leg of about 1 h 10 the cruise-speed gap against a newer light jet comes to a handful of minutes.

All three types appear on our own fleet pages. Heavier cabins can be arranged for this sector too.

What it costs

From €5 200 one way. Indicative starting price for this route, rounded down. The date, the aircraft actually available and airport fees move it — tell us your dates and we confirm within 30 minutes.

The figure above is a floor and not a fixed price, and we would rather say so than dress it up. What you pay is set by where the aircraft is standing that morning, and on this pairing that varies more than most: one fleet covers the Alps in winter and the Mediterranean in summer, so the February answer and the August answer come from different places.

What is published anywhere is an hourly rate for the class of aircraft, never a price for this sector. Brokers publish EUR 4,600 to 7,300 per hour for European light jets and others quote from EUR 2,900 per hour, both retrieved in 2026. Use those to sanity-check a quotation and not to calculate one: a leg of about 1 h 10 is billed against minimum charges, crew duty and the positioning flight, and a stopwatch has very little to do with it.

Season and direction are what actually move the number. Leaving Zurich in January or February you have the better half of the argument: the light jets are already working the Alps, so nothing has to be flown in empty to collect you and a northbound leg can price well. By August that fleet has gone south, and the positioning flight becomes the line that separates two quotations. If you are coming back inside the day, holding the aircraft normally beats buying two separate one-ways. Send the dates and we will quote against them.

Those hourly rates are third-party published figures for the class of aircraft, reproduced here so that you can check any quotation you are handed, ours included. They are not our offer and they are not a price for this sector. Only a written quotation from Diamond Executive Aero Services, against your dates, is a price. Call +357 95 119759, at any hour.

When to fly, and when to book early

Alpine first, corporate second, which is an odd shape for a link between two northern business cities - the ski traffic is what does it. Read the table from this direction: the weeks that fill the southbound legs on a Friday fill the northbound ones on Sunday evening, and the Zurich night restriction is waiting at exactly that hour.

PeriodWhat happensWhat to do
December to MarchThe Alpine season and the peak of the pairing. Going this way the crush is the end of the weekend rather than the start of it: parties come down from the Grisons, the Valais and the Bernese Oberland and all want to be off the ground inside the same couple of hours.Three to four weeks out for a Sunday. Name the hour you want to leave and not only the date - stands and handling slots go before the aircraft do, and the night restriction closes the back end of the evening.
April to MayThe quietest stretch of the year. The snow has gone, the summer traffic has not started, and the fleet is repositioning between the Alps and the south. The best window in the year for an empty leg running towards the Netherlands, and the cheapest time to fly this direction if the dates can move.
June to SeptemberThe secondary peak: summer in the Alps and Swiss corporate travel arriving together, with Zurich also feeding traffic towards the Mediterranean. Two to three weeks for a fixed date. Friday afternoon is the pinch point in both directions, so ask early if that is when you have to travel.
October to NovemberBusiness only. Finance and pharma, largely Tuesday to Thursday, with no leisure load on top of it.A week is normally enough. Ask for an early departure out of Zurich: arriving at Schiphol ahead of the morning wave is easier than arriving into it.

Questions we get about this route

How long is Zurich to Amsterdam by private jet?
About 1 hour 10 minutes in the air over 603 km, with roughly 15 minutes on the ground at each end at a business-aviation terminal. The figure is an estimate from a model fitted to the flight times we publish ourselves, not a measured block time, and it moves with routing, wind and slots.
How late in the evening can we leave Zurich?
Not as late as people assume. Zurich operates a night restriction, so a late evening departure is agreed in advance rather than taken for granted. It bites hardest on Sunday evenings in the ski season, when a great many parties want to leave the Alps inside the same couple of hours. Tell us the time you actually want to move rather than only the date, and we will confirm in writing what is available before you commit to anything.
We are flying out of Switzerland - is there anything to declare when we land?
Your passport is not the issue: Switzerland is inside the Schengen area, so this is not a passport border in the way a flight to the United Kingdom is. Switzerland is outside the EU customs union, though, so the goods you carry are treated differently on arrival - anything of real value, from samples to jewellery to equipment you intend to leave behind, may have to be declared. Tell us what is travelling with you and the handling agent will have the paperwork ready before you land.
What decides the time we land at Schiphol?
The slot. Schiphol is slot-coordinated, so the landing window is booked in advance rather than picked on the day, and business aviation is handled at the general aviation terminal rather than in the scheduled terminals. If the hour you want is difficult, or if your address is not Amsterdam itself, say so early: Rotterdam The Hague suits the southern Randstad and Lelystad suits the east, and we would rather propose one of those than squeeze you into a bad slot.
We are bringing the skis home - will they fit?
Usually, but it is the question to ask before the aircraft is chosen rather than after. Hard ski bags and boot bags eat hold volume much faster than suitcases do, so tell us how many sets are coming back with you when you enquire. On this route that number changes the type we propose more often than the size of the party does.
What does the northbound leg cost?
From €5 200 one way as an indicative floor, moved by the date, the aircraft actually free and the airport fees. There is no published route price we would put our name to. The public reference points are hourly rates for the class - brokers publish EUR 4,600 to 7,300 per hour for European light jets, others quote from EUR 2,900 per hour, both retrieved in 2026 - and they are not the same thing as a price for a 603 km sector. In practice the season decides more than the distance does.
Are there empty legs running north out of Zurich?
Yes, and the reason is the shape of the Zurich fleet's year: aircraft come north empty after dropping ski parties and go south empty at the start of the summer, so repositioning traffic through Switzerland is heavy. Brokers publish discounts of 50 to 75 percent on empty sectors. April and May are the best weeks to catch one heading your way. The trade is flexibility - the date and roughly the hour belong to the operator, not to you. Current empty legs
How late can we book this departure?
Same day is often possible, and it turns on three things rather than one: a suitable aircraft, the Schiphol landing slot and the Zurich night restriction. April, May, October and November are the straightforward months on this pairing; a Sunday evening in February is not. The operations desk answers twenty-four hours a day on +357 95 119759 and will tell you straight away whether your timing works or has to move.
