The route at a glance

As business-aviation cities the two ends are almost exactly matched - Linate logged 25,757 movements in 2023 and London Luton 26,661, within a few percent of each other and both inside Europe's top ten - so the aeroplane is seldom what stands in your way. Flown north-west the two things that do are at opposite ends of the trip: the departure slot at Linate, which is chosen from a set rather than picked freely, and the border on arrival, because the United Kingdom is outside both the European Union and the Schengen area.

Distance is the great-circle figure between airport coordinates from the OurAirports open dataset. The flight time is an estimate, not a measured block time: it comes from a simple model fitted to the flight times Diamond Executive Aero Services already publishes on this website, and it moves with airway routing, wind, slots and aircraft type. Your quotation carries the real schedule.

Which airports we use

There are two separate decisions here and they behave very differently. At the Milan end the field is effectively chosen for you - Linate, unless its slots or its hours say otherwise - and the thing to settle is the departure window. At the London end nothing is chosen for you at all: three business-aviation airports will take you, a few minutes separate them in the air, and an hour or more can separate them on the ground.

AirportCodesGreat-circle to LutonSuits you if
Milan LinateLIN / LIML1,005 kmThe default, and the closest major airport to the centre of any city on this website. It is slot-coordinated for scheduled traffic, so business aviation departs inside defined windows rather than whenever it is ready, and it has a dedicated business-aviation terminal. Book the window before you argue about the aeroplane.
Milan MalpensaMXP / LIMC961 kmThe shorter sector of the two by some margin, and the longer road. It becomes the right answer when Linate has no slot at the hour you need, when Linate is closed, or when your morning starts out towards the lakes or Varese rather than in the city.
Bergamo Orio al SerioBGY / LIME1,009 kmThe third departure, east of the city. It earns its place for Bergamo, Brescia and the eastern Lombardy industrial belt rather than for anyone leaving central Milan.
London LutonLTN / EGGWarrivalWhere most of this traffic lands, and the field with the widest choice of aircraft on the day. Farnborough is 984 km from Linate and Biggin Hill 944 km, both marginally shorter in the air: pick by where you are going that evening, not by the distance, and tell us the postcode.

Aircraft for Milan to London

At 1,005 km this is a light-to-midsize sector with a great deal of margin, so range never decides it. What decides it is what the trip is: a day return out of Linate with hand luggage, or a move north with everything a household owns.

Embraer Phenom 300

Six to eight passengers, 2.27 cubic metres of hold, 3,650 km of range. The commonest type on the corridor and the quickest to arrange out of Linate at short notice, which on a slot-coordinated departure counts for a good deal.

See the Embraer Phenom 300 ›

Cessna Citation XLS+

Seven to eight passengers in a stand-up cabin, with the largest hold of the three at 2.55 cubic metres. The one to name when the party is travelling with real luggage rather than briefcases.

See the Cessna Citation XLS+ ›

Hawker 800XP

Six to eight passengers, full galley, separate lavatory. At 5,463 km of range it is a long way inside itself here, which is exactly why it is the type of choice when London is the middle stop of a three-stop day rather than the end of one.

All three types are on our own fleet pages. Larger cabins - Legacy 650, Challenger 605 - fly this route too.

Brokers publish reference points for this corridor across three cabin sizes. They are third-party estimates for the pair rather than our offer, printed so that you have something to measure a quotation against - and worth reading alongside one fact about this direction: the Linate slot, not the aeroplane, is what most often forces a change of plan.

When to fly, and when to book early

Milan's business-aviation year is driven by its fairs and its fashion weeks, not by the Mediterranean summer, and read from the departure end the pattern is simple: the weeks that fill the city are the weeks a Linate slot is hardest to obtain.

PeriodWhat happensWhat to do
February and SeptemberFashion weeks. The city fills, handling capacity disappears, and everything that flew in has to fly out again - which is felt on a departure rather than on an arrival.Four to six weeks. This is the hardest time of the year to place an aircraft at Linate, and the slot is what you are booking, not the aeroplane.
AprilThe furniture fair puts a second, shorter spike on the calendar, with heavy traffic arriving from all over Europe and leaving inside the same few days.Three to four weeks, and fix the departure window before you settle the aircraft type.
March to June and September to NovemberThe general business pattern, steady rather than spiky, in both directions. One to two weeks is usually enough. Give us the hour you need to be in London and we will work back from it.
AugustMilan empties. EUROCONTROL's analysis of European business flying found a pronounced July-August trough, and in Milan it is more pronounced than most. The cheapest and easiest month of the year on this pairing, and the one where short notice is genuinely easy.

Questions we get about this route

How long is the flight from Milan to London by private jet?
About 1 hour 40 minutes, and we publish the same figure for the flight back. The great-circle distance from Linate to Luton is 1,005 km; Farnborough is 984 km and Biggin Hill 944 km, and from Malpensa to Luton it is 961 km. Flown this way you are heading into the prevailing westerlies rather than with them, so if either leg runs long it is more likely to be this one. Allow roughly fifteen minutes on the ground at each end.
What time can we actually leave Linate?
Not simply whenever you would like, and this is the single most useful thing to understand about a Milan departure. Linate is slot-coordinated for scheduled traffic and business aviation fits around it, so your departure time is chosen from a set rather than picked freely - and in fashion week that set is small. Tell us the hour you need to be on the ground in London and we will work backwards and confirm the window before you build a day around it. If the hour does not exist, Malpensa is the answer.
What happens at the border when we land in the UK?
This is a full international arrival. Italy is in the European Union and inside the Schengen area; the United Kingdom is outside both, so a flight from Milan arrives from a third country. Passport control applies, and at a business-aviation field it is carried out beside the aircraft in the terminal rather than in a hall. It is routine but it is not automatic: send us the complete passenger list with passport details well before the day rather than at the aircraft steps, and it is settled before you land.
Which London airport should we land at?
Whichever is nearest to where you are actually going. Luton is 1,005 km from Linate, Farnborough 984 km and Biggin Hill 944 km - a few minutes between them in the air, and potentially an hour between them on the road. Luton carries the widest choice of aircraft on the day, Farnborough takes no scheduled traffic at all, and Biggin Hill suits south and east London and the City. Give us the postcode and we will name the field rather than let you pick from a map.
Linate or Malpensa for the departure?
Linate unless something prevents it. It is minutes from the centre of Milan and has a dedicated business-aviation terminal, so the part of the journey you actually feel - the ground time at the end where you are standing - is short. Malpensa is the shorter flight, 961 km against 1,005 km, and a much longer drive, so it wins only when Linate has no slot at your hour or when you are already out towards the lakes.
How much does a private jet from Milan to London cost?
From EUR 8 900 one way for the whole aircraft as our own floor. Brokers publish around 8,900 EUR for a four-seat Phenom 100, around 15,700 EUR for a nine-seat Legacy 500 and around 18,600 EUR for an eight-seat Hawker 1000, one way, whole aircraft (retrieved August 2026). Those are their estimates for the corridor, not our offer. What moves your own number is where the aircraft starts, the cabin you need, and whether your date falls in a fair week. Ask us for a written quotation against your dates.
When is a Milan departure hardest to get?
The two fashion weeks in February and September, and the furniture fair in April. Those three periods do more to the price and the availability of a Linate departure than the aircraft type does, because what runs out is the slot and the handling window rather than the aeroplane. August is the exact opposite: the city empties, and so does the route.
Are there empty legs, and can I buy a single seat?
Empty legs appear on this corridor regularly - our own published empty-leg table includes a Milan sector, and the business season generates repositioning flights all the way through it. They are sold at large discounts, the published range being 50 to 75 percent, and they are led by dates rather than routes, so tell us which week could move. On flights we open for sharing you can also buy a single seat rather than the whole aircraft. Current empty legs and more about jet sharing.
Can I book a last-minute private jet from Milan to London?
Often yes, and this is the most common way this route is booked. A last-minute charter means the aircraft, the crew and the airport slots have to line up at short notice: when they do, we have put people in the air within a few hours of the first call. What decides it is where a suitable aircraft happens to be and whether the windows at both ends are open, not our willingness. Call the operations desk on +357 95 119759 — it answers around the clock — and we will tell you straight away whether your timing is achievable rather than promise and check later. Last-minute empty legs on this corridor are worth asking about at the same time.
