Private Jet Charter Ankara to Istanbul

Esenboga to Ataturk covers 365 km in roughly 52 minutes, normally in a light jet. Nine times in ten it is the closing half of a day that opened in Istanbul, and that is what deserves your planning: the morning leg goes out at the start of a crew’s permitted duty, and this one comes back at the far end of it. Whether your evening holds together is settled by how late the meeting ran, not by the 365 km. We publish no opening figure for this sector and the page explains the reason. Dates and hours to us, written quotation back within half an hour; the desk is staffed at every hour on +357 95 119759.

Under an hour from the capital back to the European shore of Istanbul, with three possible fields waiting at the far end and a real reason to weigh them. Dinner at home instead of a hotel in Ankara. Arranged 24/7.

The route at a glance

A commercial sector flown at the tired end of a commercial day, and both halves of that description matter. The distance is nothing: a light jet dispatches it without thinking, and the airlines run it several times daily. What you are actually purchasing is a departure at your own hour from a field a quarter of an hour from your last appointment, and a landing on whichever shore of the Bosphorus you are sleeping on. The quirk of this pairing is that the choice lives at the arrival end rather than the departure one. Ankara offers a single airport for this traffic; Istanbul offers three. And getting across that city takes longer than getting across Anatolia.

Ataturk LTBA at Bakirkoy, close in on the European shore, and carrying no scheduled service – which is exactly why it works for us

The distance is a great-circle figure between airport coordinates, so the track actually flown is longer than it. The time is a model estimate and not a measured block time: the model is fitted to flight times Diamond Executive Aero Services already publishes on this website, it makes no distinction between the outbound and the return, and routing, wind, slots and aircraft type all move it. The schedule in your quotation is the real one.

Which airports we use

One field in the capital and three in Istanbul, and the question is worth putting properly, because twenty minutes saved in the air count for nothing against the hour a Bosphorus crossing can take off you at nine in the evening.

AirportCodesRoleSuits you if
Ankara EsenbogaESB / LTACdepartureThe capital’s airport, out to the north-east, and the point from which every figure on this page is measured. It serves the ministries, the embassies and the defence and technology businesses that have grown up around them – which is the whole reason this flight exists, since an appointment in the capital and dinner in Istanbul becomes one day rather than two. Tell us the hour you expect to be let go rather than the hour you hope to be wheels-up, and both the aeroplane and the crew day get planned around that.
Istanbul AtaturkISL / LTBAarrivalAt Bakirkoy on the European shore, close in to the city. The OurAirports dataset we work from lists no scheduled service here: the airlines moved away, and what that leaves behind is precisely a business-aviation airport, and the shortest distance between an aeroplane and a European-shore address. Our default landing on this sector.
Istanbul Sabiha GokcenSAW / LTFJarrival alternative, Asian shoreOut at Pendik. Where your evening ends in Kadikoy, Atasehir or anywhere east of the water, touching down here instead of at Ataturk spares you a city crossing worth considerably more than the minute or two it adds aloft. Give us the address and we will tell you which shore to land on.
Istanbul AirportIST / LTFMarrival alternative, for connectionsThe scheduled hub that inherited Ataturk’s airline traffic, further out to the north-west. It earns its place on one particular evening: when you are not going into Istanbul at all but stepping straight onto an intercontinental departure. Then landing where that flight leaves from beats landing near a city you will not see.

Coordinates, codes and scheduled-service status come from the OurAirports open dataset, pulled 23 August 2026. The distance is measured great-circle between Esenboga and Ataturk; sectors to the other two Istanbul fields differ by a small amount we have not measured from that dataset.

Aircraft for Ankara to Istanbul

365 km makes no demand at all on a light jet’s range, so the type follows the party rather than the sector. On a day trip the aeroplane and its crew belong to you for the whole day rather than for the hour and a half of flying – which is the thing most worth grasping before anyone chooses a cabin.

Embraer Phenom 300

Biggest of the three light cabins, and the one to ask for when six or seven of you are travelling with papers to work through on the way back. Usually the simplest to secure late in the working season as well.

See the Phenom 300 ›

Cessna Citation CJ2

Economical and fast to turn around, which is what a day trip genuinely requires. The natural choice for a delegation of four or five going up for the morning and coming back for the evening.

See the Citation CJ2 ›

Cessna Citation Bravo

The cheapest of the three to run across a sector this short. Over 52 minutes the cabin gap between it and something larger is far narrower than the price gap.

See the Citation Bravo ›

All three appear in our own fleet section. Bigger cabins can be organised on this sector too, and are worth raising where the party exceeds what a light jet seats.

What it costs

There is no opening figure on this page, and the reason is structural rather than evasive.

This leg is hardly ever bought by itself. It is the closing half of a day that began in Istanbul, and on such a day what you have purchased is the aeroplane and its crew from the moment they sign on until the moment they are released. The hours you spent in a meeting cost more than the 365 km you then fly back. A number printed here would describe the flying, which is the smallest component of what you are actually paying for.

Hourly rates for the class do get published, by others. The figures currently in circulation are EUR 4,600 to 7,300 an hour for European light and midsize jets from LunaJets (undated), from EUR 2,900 an hour from Eurosky (19 February 2026) and USD 3,750 to 4,200 an hour from Paramount Business Jets (August 2026). Take them with the warning we prefer to state rather than let you find out: those describe the European market for a class of aeroplane, whereas this is a Turkish domestic sector. Useful for checking an order of magnitude; not a price for this route.

What really sets the bill is waiting, and on this direction it does so at the awkward end of the day. A crew’s duty window is finite and it opened when they signed on in Istanbul that morning. Released at six, the evening leg is unremarkable. Released at ten, it may no longer be legal on the same crew, and the honest options are a second crew, a second aeroplane or a night in the capital. All three are far easier to arrange days ahead than at nine in the evening. Give us the hour your meeting ends as well as the hour it starts, and the day gets priced both ways with a recommendation attached.

When to fly, and when to book early

This sector obeys an office calendar rather than a weather one, and the flights follow the diaries of the capital almost exactly.

The first peak runs March into June, when the institutional and corporate year is in full session. The second, September into November, is usually the heavier, stretching from the return after summer to the close of the corporate year. Through both, aeroplanes are rarely what is scarce – useful hours are, and on this direction the useful hours sit at the end of the day rather than in the middle of it. Book ahead where you can and name your hours, not just your date. If the same people make the journey repeatedly, describe the pattern rather than one flight and we will plan the aircraft around the pattern.

July and August drain the capital’s diary: the heat peaks, the institutions wind down, and much of the country and its aeroplanes head for the coast. Those are the easiest weeks of the year to buy this sector late, with one caveat – with a good deal of the fleet working the resorts, an aeroplane may need positioning, so give us whatever notice you have. From the last days of December things go quiet, then run steadily through January and February, when winter weather occasionally has more to say about the evening than the diary does. The two Bayram holidays move around the calendar year to year and clear a working week apiece when they land; if your dates are anywhere near one, ask us where it falls that year.

Onward from Istanbul

For a good many parties the capital was the middle of the week rather than the end of it. These are the sectors most often asked for alongside this one.

Istanbul to London

The long westbound run, written up separately with its own notes on fields and cabins. The usual continuation where the Istanbul night is a stop rather than a destination.

Istanbul to Paris

West into continental Europe, and after London the sector we are asked for most often at the end of a capital trip.

Questions we get about this route

How long is Ankara to Istanbul?
Roughly 52 minutes aloft across 365 km, with about a quarter of an hour on the ground at either end at a business-aviation terminal. The figure is computed from a model fitted to times we already publish rather than measured, and it shifts with routing, wind, slots and type. On a day trip, though, what governs your evening is the hour you are released in Ankara and not the 52 minutes.
Which Istanbul airport should we land at?
Ataturk where your evening ends on the European shore – it is close in at Bakirkoy and it is where this traffic goes. Sabiha Gokcen where you are staying east of the water, because the crossing you avoid is worth far more than the minute it adds aloft. Istanbul Airport only where you are stepping straight onto an intercontinental departure rather than going into the city at all. Send the address and we will name the field.
Our meeting might over-run. Then what?
This is the question to settle before the day rather than during it. The crew’s duty window opened when they signed on that morning, so a late release does not merely push the evening leg back – it can put the flight outside what one crew is permitted to operate. The remedies are a second crew, a second aeroplane or a night in the capital, and all three are straightforward days ahead and awkward at nine in the evening. Give us the realistic worst hour, not the hopeful one.
Does Ataturk still operate? Why land there?
It does, and for this purpose it works better than it once did. The scheduled airlines moved to Istanbul Airport, and the OurAirports dataset we work from shows no scheduled service at LTBA. What remains is general and business aviation at the field closest to the European shore of the city – which is what you want at the end of a long day.
What aircraft over 365 km?
A light jet, typically the Phenom 300, the Citation CJ2 or the Citation Bravo. Range is not in question at this distance, so the deciding factors are how many are travelling and what happens to be standing where. Bigger cabins can be organised and are worth raising where the party exceeds what a light jet seats.
Why is there no figure on this page?
Because on a day trip the honest price turns on your hours rather than on your route: the crew and the aeroplane are yours from sign-on to release. The public reference points are class hourly rates – LunaJets at EUR 4,600 to 7,300 an hour for European light and midsize jets (undated), Eurosky from EUR 2,900 an hour (19 February 2026), Paramount Business Jets at USD 3,750 to 4,200 an hour (August 2026) – and we would add that those are European figures for a class, not prices for a Turkish domestic sector. Send dates and hours and a real number follows within half an hour.
Is there anything to arrange at the border?
There is no border. Both fields are in Turkey, so this is a domestic sector and it adds no formalities to your evening. What does repay early attention is ground transport at both ends – out to Esenboga from your last appointment, and in from whichever Istanbul field you land at to wherever you are staying.
Is there an empty leg heading this way?
They appear, because aeroplanes do reposition between the capital and Istanbul, and westbound after a morning delivery is one of the shapes that generates them. But this is a commercial corridor rather than a seasonal one, so the movements are harder to predict than on a holiday route, and you take the operator’s date and roughly the operator’s hour. That suits a diary with give in it, not an appointment with a fixed finish. Ask us what is genuinely on the board rather than what usually is. Current empty legs
