London to the Trois Vallees in about an hour and a half. The honest version of this route: almost no business jet lands at Courchevel itself, and knowing that before you book is the difference between a smooth arrival and a long afternoon.
REQUEST A QUOTECourchevel is the most misunderstood destination in Alpine charter. The altiport exists, it is 884 km from London Luton, and aircraft do use it - but they are turboprops and helicopters flown by specifically certified crews, not the jets people picture. The runway is short and steeply uphill, there is no instrument approach and no go-around once you are committed to it, and operations are visual and daylight only. In practice a jet from London lands in the valley and the last thirty minutes are flown or driven. That is not a downgrade; it is how everyone who skis Courchevel regularly actually gets there.
This table is the whole route. Read the first row before you read the others, because it determines everything else about how the day is planned.
| Airport | Codes | Great-circle from Luton | What it means for you |
|---|---|---|---|
| Courchevel Altiport | CVF / LFLJ | 884 km | A short runway on a marked uphill gradient, with no instrument approach and no possibility of going around once committed. Daylight and visual conditions only, an approved aircraft type and a crew certified for this specific airfield. Turboprops and helicopters, essentially never business jets. Beautiful, and not a jet destination. |
| Chambery | CMF / LFLB | 830 km | The closest jet-capable field to the Trois Vallees and the usual answer for Courchevel, Meribel and Val Thorens. It is a mountain airport in its own right and can close on weather, so we always plan an alternate with it. |
| Grenoble Alpes Isere | GNB / LFLS | 836 km | The fallback when Chambery is weather-affected or full on a Saturday changeover. Sits out on the plain, so it stays open when the valley fields do not. |
| Geneva | GVA / LSGG | 784 km | The longest road transfer of the three and the shortest flight. In exchange you get the deepest choice of aircraft, of handling and of helicopters, and an airport that very rarely closes. |

The jet sector to the valley is a light-to-midsize job at 884 km. What actually drives the choice on this route is not range but hold volume: a party of six with skis, boards and boot bags fills a small aeroplane long before it fills the seats.
Six to eight passengers with a 2.27 cubic metre hold. Fine for four skiers with their own kit, tight for six. The most commonly available type for a same-week booking out of London in January.
See the Embraer Phenom 300 ›Seven to eight passengers and the biggest hold of the three at 2.55 cubic metres. For a family with skis this is usually the right aeroplane, and the stand-up cabin matters more on the way home than on the way out.
See the Cessna Citation XLS+ ›Six to eight passengers, full galley, separate lavatory. Note the hold is the smallest of the three at 1.40 cubic metres - a comfortable cabin that will argue with a full set of ski bags, so tell us the luggage before you tell us the type.
See the Hawker 800XP ›All three types are on our own fleet pages. For the altiport sector itself we arrange an approved turboprop or a helicopter separately - ask the operations desk.

Three things drive the cost here and none of them is the distance. The first is the changeover day: a Saturday in the Alps in February is the single most expensive slot in European charter, and the same aircraft on the Tuesday is a different proposition entirely. The second is which valley airport you use, because a Geneva arrival with a long road transfer, a Chambery arrival with a short one and a helicopter shuttle to the altiport are three different bills with three different risk profiles. The third is the return: aircraft that bring a party into the Alps on Saturday morning often have to fly out empty, and pairing your outbound with somebody else's positioning leg is where the real saving lives on this route. Tell us your week and the size of the party and we will lay out the options with prices against each.
Courchevel has the sharpest season of any destination on this site. Outside roughly four months the altiport is a scenic curiosity and the valley airports are quiet.
| Period | What happens | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Late December to early January | The heaviest fortnight of the Alpine year. Chalet weeks run Saturday to Saturday and everyone lands on the same morning. | Book months rather than weeks ahead, and expect the Saturday to cost more than the flight on either side of it. |
| January to March | The core season and the best skiing. Midweek traffic is a fraction of the Saturday traffic. | If you can shift to a Sunday or a Wednesday you will pay less and land closer to the resort. |
| February half term | British school holidays put a second spike on top of the season, concentrated on two Saturdays. | Six to eight weeks minimum. Handling and ground transfer book out before the aircraft do. |
| April to November | The altiport keeps summer hours and the Trois Vallees run a walking and cycling season, but charter demand from London collapses. | Short notice is realistic and the empty-leg board is worth a look. |

Whichever valley airport you use, something has to cover the gap to the resort.
The fastest and the most weather-dependent option, and the one that actually uses the Courchevel runway. Our own published helicopter rates start at 750 EUR per hour on a Eurocopter AS350.
Helicopter charter ›The reliable option. It does not care about cloud base and it takes your luggage without a weight discussion. We arrange it with the flight rather than leaving it to you.
Ask about transfers ›If your party is already in Switzerland, Geneva to Nice and Geneva to London are the two sectors we publish from there.
Geneva to London ›Tell us your dates and how many of you there are. Your dedicated flight advisor will come back with aircraft options and a firm price.
