The Vineyard draws New Yorkers for the summer, from Edgartown and Oak Bluffs to the quieter up-island towns of Chilmark and Aquinnah. Flying private skips both the ferry lines at Woods Hole and the Cape Cod traffic on Friday afternoons, which is the main reason people charter this short hop. Most trips are weekend or week-long stays, with a wave of arrivals around the Fourth of July and again in August. As on Nantucket, the airport's summer ramp is busy, so aircraft usually reposition between drop-off and pick-up.

Airline service from New York to the Vineyard is seasonal. In 2026, Delta, JetBlue and Cape Air flew non-stops from New York-area airports (JFK, LaGuardia and, for Cape Air in summer, Westchester), mostly between late spring and early autumn; schedules change every year, so check with the airlines for current dates. Outside those weeks there is no non-stop airline flight, and in season the flights fill up around the Fourth of July and in August.
A charter flies any day of the year and leaves when you are ready, from Teterboro or from Westchester (HPN), which at 261 km is the closer start for Westchester County and Connecticut. It also carries what airline seats do not: bikes, beach gear, dogs and a household's summer luggage.
