What the range means in practice

5,926 km of published range against a longest published route of 5,500 km. Every sector on this website is a single flight for this aircraft - though the longest one is closer to the limit than the headline suggests. What follows is the arithmetic, route by route, and the caveat that goes with it.

The number that matters on a chartered aircraft is not the headline range but the margin left over after the headline range has been spent. A published range figure is a still-air, optimum-cruise, sensible-payload figure. Fill every seat, load the hold and fly into a winter jet stream, and the usable figure comes down. Everything below that top line is uncontroversial. The next sector down already leaves several hundred kilometres more in hand, and from the middle of the table onwards the margin runs into the thousands. So the practical reading of this aircraft is: one route on this website is a conversation with the operator, and the other 47 are not.

Range to spare is worth something even when you are not using it.
